Unsanded Grout
What Is Unsanded Grout?
Unsanded grout is a fine-textured grout made without sand aggregates. Its smooth consistency allows it to flow easily into narrow grout joints, making it ideal for installations where precision and surface protection are required.
Because it lacks abrasive sand particles, unsanded grout is safe for use with polished stone, glass tile, and other delicate surfaces that could be scratched by sanded grout. It creates a clean, uniform finish that enhances the appearance of detailed tile layouts.
When to Use Unsanded Grout
Unsanded grout is best suited for grout joints that are 1/8 inch wide or less. In wider joints, it may shrink or crack as it cures, which is why joint width is an important consideration during installation.
Performance and Maintenance
While unsanded grout provides a smooth and refined look, it is generally less durable than sanded grout in high-traffic areas. Proper sealing can help improve stain resistance and longevity, particularly in moisture-prone environments.
Choosing the correct grout type ensures a durable installation, protects tile surfaces, and contributes to a polished, professional finish.
