Marble isn’t 100% non-porous and therefore stain and moisture sensitive. We recommend sealing marble honed tile during installation and once or twice a year. A sealant provides a protective barrier that stops water- and oil-based stains in their tracks.

6.  Can I DIY install honed floor tile?

With proper guidelines, DIY installation is possible! Start with the necessary preparation to ensure a durable and long-lasting design. Before attaching tiles, ensure the substrate is clean, dry, and stable. Use good-quality adhesive and grout for a professional finish you’ll enjoy for years.

Measure and mark your layout from the center of your installation then use a towel to spread and even out the adhesive. Attach the first honed tile and press it down into the adhesive using your hand or rubber mallet. Repeat this step, using tile spacers between joints for uniform gaps.

As you approach the edges, cut the tile down to size using a wet saw with a diamond blade. Give your tile edges a professional finish with a tile trim. Explore our range of bullnose, pencil liner, baseboard, or chair rail tile trims to find the perfect closing detail. Once you’ve laid all your tiles, allow the adhesive to dry for at least 24 hours.

Move on to removing spacers and filling the tile joints with grout—removing excess from the tile surface with a damp sponge. Allow the grout to dry, then clean with a wet sponge and wipe dry with a clean cloth.

7.  How do I keep my honed floor tile clean?

Honed tile flooring is fairly easy to maintain and live with. A light sweep or hoover and a soft mop with warm water and a mild tile cleaner will retain your floors’ beauty. For honed marble tile, we recommend a cleaner that will not strip away the sealant but instead enhance longevity.
