Considered to be an important measure of strength, it is also a standard mechanical quality metric used across all clay-based and hard-surface tiles. It helps to determine your tile's durability and suitability for floors, walls, or heavy-load areas.
What is Breaking Strength Test?
Breaking strength test means measuring the force required to break a tile under controlled conditions. While testing, the tile is supported at specific points, be it centre, corners or more, at the same time, pressure is gradually applied until it fails. Now the recorded value is known as the breaking load, indicating how well the tile can resist concentrated weight and bending stress.
Several factors can affect a tile's breaking strength, including its material, thickness, density, and manufacturing process. Porcelain tiles, for example, typically have higher breaking strength than many ceramic tiles due to their dense composition.
